In the future, I will probably delete this entry like I have always done.
But for one moment, I must vent.
------------------
It is rather frustrating and discouraging when I have applied for OSAP in June and must wait until September to receive any funding from them.
Let's not forget that I and everyone else have to finish several pieces of paperwork that we may not be aware of, make an appointment, or that a majority of my fees are due on September 10. I know I'm not going to have the time to get it by then. And yes, I understand that the process must be thorough so the government doesn't lose any money, but still....
So I've been thinking, is the trouble worth getting OSAP?
OSAP has the special ability to leave me and many others in the dark. I know I will have to pay it back, but I haven't found any information about that. I've heard of people not knowing and getting charged for it. I have this great fear of being indebt. As I mentioned earlier some of us just don't know the steps for OSAP. I didn't know I had to get my parents' signatures and mail that off until a friend told me and my cousin found out about it because my mother told her over the phone. I understand that there's a sense of independence but how can I do it when the information is impossible to find (by the way, their website
[link], is absolute rubbish)?
I've received an entrance award worth $5000 and I'm working right now so this year is covered. I have already bought most of my textbooks with my own money because I wanted to get ahead of my classes and avoid the chaos in September. That Technology and Textbook Grant cheque, which will arrive in September (OSAP, I have little time), will be useless.
I did the math and I realized that if I get a summer job that lasts from May to August and with my parents' support, I will have enough money to pay for my tuition (on the assumption tuition is approximately $6000 a year).
I know my parents would be very upset if I gave up on OSAP, especially since we're below the poverty line. This shows that OSAP, yet again, is screwing over the little guy.

NOTE: For those who don't know, OSAP stands for Ontario Student Assistance Program, which gives out money to students who are in need of financial aid for their education.
